  • Those with a capacity of more than 50,000 MT

  • Those with an annual turnover of less than INR 12 Lakhs.

Types of FSSAI food trading license 

A food trading business owner is required to have an FSSAI license type depend on the particular type, turnover or bandwidth of the business. Three different categories of food trading license obtained are:

  1. Basic FSSAI registration: these are for the businesses whose turnover never exceeds the limit of Rs. 12 lacks annually. These are petty vendors, hawkers, or temporary stallholders. The document required to be filled is Form A.

 Procedure to get FSSAI license with the government

Anyone could file the FSSAI registration application by themselves directly with the government. The process is time taking and requires 60days to complete.

  1. For the license registration, one must have an active phone number along with an email address for submission of form A to the food and safety department.
  2. This application could be accepted or may be rejected by the department within 7days from the date of submission of the application and all the facts have to be intimated to the applicant in writing.
  3. If the application is accepted, then the Food business operator will get the registration certificate with the registration number and photo of the applicant from the department.

Renewal of food trade license

From the day license validity is been over or expired the food business operator is liable to have FSSAI food trading business license renewal. As per FSSAI guidelines, it should be done under 30days and before the expiry of the license.

Validity of FSSAI food trade license

FSSAI license is valid for 1 year up to 5 years. As per the FSSAI rules, the FBOs are required to apply for the renewal of the license in 30days and must be made before its expiry. Any renewal form filed after the expiry date of the license needs to pay the penalty fee of Rs 100 per day.
